As I get deeper into this business—technical, product, strategy, more—I’ve come to appreciate that:

  • coming up with ideas is easy

  • coming up with a great idea is hard

  • coming up with a great idea that is feasible is even harder

  • coming up with a great & feasible idea that many people really want is harder still

  • coming up with a great & feasible idea that many people really want—and can be a viable business is the ultimate challenge (this is what drives me)

Reflecting on my experiences in talking to people about ideas:

  • many people appreciate a great idea, and they generally lose interest after that—no harm, no foul

  • many people believe that sharing ideas will lead to others stealing your ideas.

  • while it is important to appropriately protect your differentiating IP, I’m more and more of the mindset that given all the crazy shit it takes to turn an idea into a business, the “theft” of an idea can only get someone so far—the idea itself has little value on its own!
