As I get deeper into this business—technical, product, strategy, more—I’ve come to appreciate that:
coming up with ideas is easy
coming up with a great idea is hard
coming up with a great idea that is feasible is even harder
coming up with a great & feasible idea that many people really want is harder still
coming up with a great & feasible idea that many people really want—and can be a viable business is the ultimate challenge (this is what drives me)
Reflecting on my experiences in talking to people about ideas:
many people appreciate a great idea, and they generally lose interest after that—no harm, no foul
many people believe that sharing ideas will lead to others stealing your ideas.
while it is important to appropriately protect your differentiating IP, I’m more and more of the mindset that given all the crazy shit it takes to turn an idea into a business, the “theft” of an idea can only get someone so far—the idea itself has little value on its own!
